When it comes to mountain bike pedals, there are three types to choose from – the toe clip pedals, the clip-less and the flat. Depending on the type of riding you are doing, you might choose one over the other but the great thing about bike pedals is that you can interchange them so you can have both types if you like a diverse style of biking. The clip-less pedals are kind of a misnomer because your shoe does actually clip into the pedal, but the clipping is done at the bottom – the shoe is specially designed to snap into the pedal and a turn of the foot releases it. These pedals are great for holding your foot to the pedal even in the roughest terrain, but they do pose the problem of not being able to get your foot out in time should you fall.
